Recommended Spot

With exhibition rooms remodeled to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Hakodate Portfs opening, the Old British Consulate of Hakodate [sic] opened as a charming Port Memorial Hall that conveys the history of the opening of port, clearly. From the arrival of the first consul Hodgson in 1859, the Union Jack was flown at the British Consulate of Hakodate until 1934, creating a symbolic sight in the port city. After surviving repeated damage, the current building, designed by the Shanghai Construction Bureau of the British Governmentfs Ministry of Engineering Works, was completed in 1913. In addition to the exhibition rooms, the hall also houses a shop and a cafe.
