Wakkanai Port Tourist Information

Cape Soya
This, the northernmost tip of Japan has a monument on the jetty, popular among tourists as a spot for taking commemorative photographs.
Soya Hill Periglacial Landform (Hokkaido Heritage)
The hills around Cape Soya formed as a result of the slow movement of soil caused by repeated freezing and meltdown of the ground in the glacial climate that lasted until approximately 10,000 years ago. Most of such landforms, once seen over a wide area of Hokkaido, were destroyed through development, and the Soya Hill Periglacial Landform can be said to preserve the beautiful landscape most notably.
North Breakwater Dome (Hokkaido Heritage)
Located at the Kita Wharf (North Wharf), which was constructed as a landing site for ships to and from Sakhalin, this dome features thick columns and a gently curved corridor roof reminiscent of buildings from Roman times. This construction attracts attention due to its rarity even in other parts of the world.
Wakkanai Centennial Memorial Tower
Located in Wakkanai Park, this monument accommodates a glass-walled observatory 70 m above the ground, which affords a 360-degree panoramic view of the vast Sarobetsu Plain and the Soya Straits to the south, Rishiri/Rebun to the west and the vague outline of Sakhalin to the north.
Hyosetsu no Mon (Gate of Ice and Snow) (Memorial to the former residents of Karafuto)
Located in Wakkanai Park, this memorial was built in memory of the island of Karafuto, which is no longer part of Japan, and for the former islanders who died there.
Cape Noshappu
This cape provides panoramic views of the beautiful Mt. Rishiri Fuji; Rebun Island, which is known as the floating island of flowers; and the vague outline of Sakhalin. At dusk there is an exquisite view of the sunset on the horizon.
