Ogon Road
The Ogon Road includes National Highway Route 236 between Hiroo and Cape Erimo, which was once a traffic chokepoint. The road provides an exquisite view of the Funbe-no-taki waterfall, where spring water from the Hidaka Mountains runs down to the Pacific Ocean.
Flowers of Hiroo
A variety of red mountain azalea from the Hakusan mountain range is known as the Hiroo tsutsuji (azalea). The Daimaruyama Forest Park features 12,000 of these flowers, which bloom from late May to June. The Nozuka district boasts one of Japanfs largest communities of trillium (a variety of lily), which produce lovely white flowers from mid- to late May.
Marine products of Hiroo
Hiroo boasts a variety of delicious seafood including shishamo smelt, which are caught only in limited areas of Hokkaido, as well as salmon and kelp.
