The isolated island of Rishiri is situated at the northwestern tip of Hokkaido, with Mt. Rishiri - which was selected as one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains - located in the center. Visitors to the island are soothed by its pristine natural beauty and seasonal landscapes, such as those at Himenuma and Otatomarinuma lakes and other mysterious waterscapes, and at Kutsugata-misaki and Senhoshi-misaki parks.

The symbolic Mt. Rishiri towers in the center of the island.
This solitary peak, which rises 1,721 m above sea level, is also called Rishiri Fuji because of its beautiful appearance, and has been selected as one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.
On the upper slopes of the mountain are many flowers unique to Rishiri Island, including Fauriei poppies and botan-kinbai(globe flower), making the mountain a treasure trove of precious alpine plants.
In fine weather, the mountaintop affords views of Rebun Island across the water, and Sakhalin.
