Situated at the base of the Nemuro Peninsula on which Cape Nosappu, the easternmost tip of Hokkaido, is located, the specially designated Nemuro Port consists of the Nemuro Port Area on the Sea of Okhotsk side and the Hanasaki Port Area on the Pacific Ocean side. The port plays an important role as a fishing base in the northern ocean area as well as a distribution base for daily necessities in Nemuro City and neighboring municipalities.
