〇 Public awareness of illegal taxis (unlicensed cabs with white number plates)
It constitutes a criminal offence under the Road Transportation Act to use a private vehicle as a taxi and receive money for transporting passengers without permission from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Lately, amidst the sudden increase in overseas visitors to Japan, police have reported a rise in illegal taxis using overseas vehicle hire applications etc. to operate around airports and sightseeing spots.
Kinki District Transport Bureau is carrying out public awareness initiatives with concerned bodies to prevent use of risky, uninsured and illegal taxis (unlicensed cabs with white number plates), so that overseas visitors to Japan can enjoy safe and secure travel around the country.
